If you had asked me about taking supplements or diet pills a few months back I would’ve rolled my eyes and advised you to not damage your health. For a long time that was my mindset before I did some research and looked at the results posted by various individuals on how a particular supplement helped them achieve their goals in a short period of time.
That’s when I realized that even though there are supplements out there that are not manufactured properly which can cause some health problems, there are some which do fulfill the promise printed on their bottles. All that is required is proper research and consulting your doctor especially if you are already taking some form of medication or suffer from a particular illness.
What is Hydroxycut?
Hydroxycut is a brand of weight loss supplements that offers various products in the form of pills, tablets, protein bars, shakes etc. Ingredients include:
- Caffeine
- Lady’s mantle extract
- Cumin extract
- Wild mint extract
- Green Coffee bean extract
Does it Work?
No scientific studies have been conducted to test the validity of hydroxycut but its ingredients have been individually tested with the results showing significant weight loss. But it is still not certain whether or not the ingredients present in it would show the same results if taken together in a pill.
The Controversy
The ingredients mentioned above were not always present in these supplements. In 2009 the company recalled its products after the FDA issued a consumer warning. Some people started suffering from side effects such as nausea, vomiting, jaundice, abdominal pain among other things. After the recall the product returned to the market with a completely different set of ingredients.
Is it safe?
Even though after the above mentioned controversy which resulted in the changing of ingredients which are individually deemed safe, there still have been reports of negative side effects such as liver toxicity and constriction of cerebral arteries. There have even been many complains online regarding these side effects and poor results.
Taking into account that there is no guarantee that these supplements will help you lose any fat and with the risks being so huge, I would not recommend that you invest in these supplements when there are better alternatives available. That is the reason I once again advise you to do proper research and consult your physician before you start taking any supplement.
